Checking Hand History in Online Poker

Chapter 4

To some this is old news but to a new online poker player this is a huge increase in information potential about other poker players. The hand history log is stored data that some online poker rooms file to keep track of all the hands that have been played and what each player had.

You will be able to see what your opponent had even if they mucked. If you are going to be playing a tournament for two or three hours you better know how they are playing. It also becomes handy when you are taking notes on players.

How to Check History

A way you can do this is through this hand history log. Most sites offer this little detail and it is a huge help to us players. When a player loses a hand they have the option to muck their losing hand. This means that their hand won’t be displayed on the computer screen if they lost the hand.

What many don’t know is that you can still check what they had the last hand. The only thing you need to do is look up in the upper right hand corner of the screen where it says “last hand”. Some online poker rooms are different and they name the “hand history” different.

Some other things you can look up are “hand log” or “last hand”. Click on this link and it will show you the entire details of the previous hand. You can check any hand that you have played and this becomes a valuable tool to tracking your opponents and their play. If you have been playing online for awhile you probably already knew this, but I know it took me awhile to finally figure it out when I first began playing online.

What Sites Offer It

Not all online poker rooms will offer this hand history log. Sometimes you have to request the log through email. Places like Carbon Poker allow users to check the last hand instantly. Remember if a player folds in the hand you will not be able to see what they had. The only time you can view what they were holding is if they call or get called in the hand.

In real life you can muck your hand not allowing the other player to see your hand if you know you were beat. In online poker most of the online poker rooms will allow you to view this hand history log. It becomes a very important tool so check next time you are playing at your site of choice.

Ask players at the table if the site has a history log. Most players who have been around the site for awhile will tell you where it can be found.  Also if you are using Java you may have to get the hand history emailed to you instead of an on the spot history check.
