Absolute Poker

THIS POKER SITE IS NO LONGER OPERATIONAL!

At current time, Absolutepoker and sister site UB are closed for world wide play due to inability to pay customers and massive fraud accusations. The owners seem to have fled the company and so have the employees. This review is no longer applicable.

…………….

Absolutepoker.com for Mac and Linux is now here. Visit Absolutepoker.com and locate the AP Mac software button if you are using Linux, if you’re using a Mac Absolute poker will detect that and you can just click “download” and you’ll download the correct file. Absolute poker accepts US players. They have cash games and multi-table tournaments. They finally got rid of the crappy Java software and it’s now downloadable, but you need Tiger 10.4 or higher.

Promotional Codes

Please use CPBONUS at AbsolutePoker for a $500 registration bonus. Enter this in the referral and deposit section when it asks for a bonus code/promotion code.

Bad beat Jackpots

This is one thing Absolute Poker does really well. They almost always have a high bad beat jackpot running. It’s good if you feel like gambling in a way.

Absolute Poker Deposit Methods

Absolute poker uses Western Union, Credit Cards, Cash Transfer and Moneygram for major US deposit methods. There may be others but these are the more popular ones. Popular payout methods include bank wire and checks.

Overview of Absolute Poker

Absolute Poker is one of the only online poker Mac compatible sites left. Absolute poker is now the last once online poker Linux and US accepted site to disable the Java software. Their site/player traffic is slightly above average with their merge with Ultimate Bet. Real hand replay and player avatar aspects are available but the site only offers 9 player Sit and Go tournaments. The bonus is always very high but takes awhile to discharge the full amount because it’s so large.

Absolute Poker Bonus: $500

The deposit bonus has always been above $100. Not too many sites offer as many reload bonuses that Absolutepoker.com does. The reload bonuses vary so check your AP newsletter often after you register.

The bonus is released at a decent playing pace but since the bonus is always so much it can take some time to receive the full amount. Because it’s released in $10 increments it really doesn’t matter but any bonus dollar you don’t release in 60 days will expire.

Sit and Go Tournaments

I’m a big advocate of 10 player sit and go tournaments. Absolute Poker only had 9 player increment tournaments similar to FullTilt Poker. This really bugs me.

Buy-ins reach up to $1000 and go down to $.50+.1. If you don’t mind playing 9 player increments then this is a really good site for Sit and Go traffic. Multi-tablers will have no problem finding open seats as there are plenty of open tables across the board and they fill up rather quickly.

Absolute Poker FreeRolls

The freerolls were particularly weak unless you play in the larger events. Meager payouts combined with large entrants made smaller freerolls a waste of time. The prize payouts are not worth it at the lower “Points” buy-in. Save your points to play in larger tournaments such as the $250,000 freeroll. By the time you read this the freeroll will most likely be over but you get the point. They host tournaments like this occasionally. First place gets $50,000. Save your points for future big event freerolls.

Absolutepoker also has Bad Beat jackpots which can get into the hundreds of thousands if you’re sitting at the right table and at the right time.

Multi-Table Tournaments

The $500,000 Guaranteed tournaments on the weekend our their biggest tournaments.  As far as most played, I’d say it would be the UBOC which is the online poker version of the World Series of Poker.  It runs about 12 days and there are 18 events with the last one having $1 million in the tournament prize pool.

Other multi-table tournaments range from low stakes to above $200. The frequency of tournaments wasn’t too bad but it seemed most were either playing in the $100k qualifiers, freerolls, or low stakes multi-table tournaments.

High Stakes

Not really any “name” pros play at AP anymore.   The maximum stakes for the NL tables were $1,000 for the big blind. Nobody was sitting at these tables. The most active high stakes table was the $30/60 NL tables but this was about as high as people were playing.  Some guys will wait around at the $300/600.

Worst Attribute

Absolute Poker had an incident where one of their ex-upper level management personel got access to certain hacks that allowed him to view hole cards of other players in tournaments. This turned out to be an isolated incident and was a huge scandal but nonetheless it hurt AP’s reputation even though full security has since been restored.

Best Attributes

The reload bonuses offered on the weekends was great. Also the big freeroll tournaments like the $250K tournament which was offered when I joined is an attractive option if you are interested in freerolling. They will run promos called “Bad Beat Jackpots” which get into the hundreds of thousands if you’re at a bad beat table. This was interesting but you have to pay more rake at those tables in order to win.

BlackJack

BlackJack at AbsolutePoker was added and is viewable through your poker account in the poker lobby. I’m a sucker for this, even though it’s not exactly the smartest thing in the world.  If you want to save your money, DON’T play the blackjack!
