| Where Macintosh Poker Might Be Heading All sorts of things are having an impact on what we’ll see in the future with regards to Mac compatible poker rooms. The two bigger issues are politics and Windows. Politics are not only affecting the way we look at internet poker legality issues but also Mac poker gaming.
There are multiple websites out there that have expressed the desire to become Mac compatible. I mean why wouldn’t they? There is a sizeable market. The one major obstacle which could be hindering the development of more Mac poker rooms is politics.
A large majority of Mac users reside in the . With political debates lingering on whether internet gambling will be banned in the , some sites are getting scared. Why build a million dollar platform if Mac poker players will cease to exist.
The solution to this problem is more and more sites building Java based programs. The Java will lead to Mac compatibility while addressing other needs of Windows users.
So Mac users can expect sites to continue building Mac – Java software but don’t expect everyone to jump on the native Mac software development like Full Tilt Poker.
Virtualization and dual booting can also hinder the need for Mac related poker software. With all new Mac laptops being Intel based the use of Windows on a Mac is ever increasing. This reduces the so called “Mac poker market” keeping bigger sites from developing games for Macs.
My personal prediction is that we will see just about every large internet poker room develop a no download solution. I don’t think too many rooms will come out in the next couple months but in 6-12 months we will see the big influx.
The newest player to join the bandwagon was Party Poker with a no download software which is still being worked on.
