One of the poker industry’s most influential organizations, the World Poker Association, has announced a change in leadership; naming its founder Jesse Jones, chairman emeritus.

Previously chairman of the organization’s board of directors, it is believed that Jones will remain on as part of the board as an influential figure.

Created in 2005, the World Poker Association was established by Jones as a means to promote a high level of professionalism in the poker industry. In July 2007, the WPA released its much talked-about ethics code with the distinct aim of bringing a new set of standards to poker tournaments around the world. The code, divided into five sections, covers general provisions, relationships among players, relationships between players and dealers, player-management relationships and external relationships.  One of the main aims of the WPA ethics code is to do away with collusion and, in its place, promote professional behavior at poker tables.

The role of chairman of the WPA board of directors will be filled by Wendeen Eolis, a successful businesswoman in her own right and an important figure in the poker world. She has been elected in the past to the WPT Professional Poker Tour and has been a regular feature in several World Series of Poker tournaments. In yet another capacity, Eolis has served as advisor to major political figures such as Rudolf Giuliani and Governor George Pataki from New York.

Commenting on her new role, Wendeen Eolis said: "Our Board of Directors is pushing forward with its efforts to promote poker as a sport with the highest ethical standards because of Jesse's vision and determination to create this vibrant association.”

Earlier this month, the World Poker Association elected Ken Adams, a popular personality in the poker industry, to its Board of Directors. Adams, an excellent player and well-read columnist, will take over the role of vice chairman that is been vacated by Wendeen Eolis. Upon Adams’ election to the board, Eolis said: “I can't think of anyone who brings more assets to the role of a director than Ken. He is a passionate poker player, a highly regarded poker writer and has acquired special wisdom in recent representations in gaming matters as well as decades of broad legal experience in nationally recognized law firms."
