Hostess Layla Kayleigh Outted from WPT 7The news about Layla’s ouster as host of WPT Season 7 started to break in a round about way.
It began with unconfirmed reports from a TV producer that auditions for a new host were already underway. This obviously led to speculations that Layla, who hosted Season 6 of the event, had lost her job. There were also rumors that Kimberly Lansing was replacing her. Even before Layla’s ouster was confirmed people began to debate whether WPT had asked her to leave or Layla did not want to continue. Initially WPT came out with the usual “No comment”.
Then the first part of the drama was resolved with WPT’s statement that Layla would not host Season 7. The carefully worded official release was as follows:
"Layla Kayleigh brought great edge, whit, and personality to the World Poker Tour as hostess in Season VI, and we sincerely wish her well as she continues to explore her TV career. We are currently casting for the Season VII TV hostess role, and look forward to introducing her to everyone soon."
The statement did not clarify whose decision it was to break away. Also the issue of Layla’s replacement was left wide open. Probably this compelled Layla to make a clarification through her blog on her page at the social networking site MySpace. She said that because of her success in Season 6, WPT had invited her to host Season 7. But Layla decided not to accept the invitation for personal reasons. Layla had thoroughly enjoyed doing Season 6. She had a great time traveling and “learned so much about life and poker”. However the strenuous traveling schedule is taking a toll on her. She now wants to minimize her traveling and pay more attention to her health and personal relationships.
Layla said that WPT understood her situation and the parting was amicable. Layla also added that her stint with WPT had enabled her to build an enduring friendship with Kim Lansing, who is also associated with WPT. Did she drop a hint when she said that she hopes Kim would be host for Season 7. In a sense Layla’s departure was true to circumstances. After WPT’s original hostess Shana Hiatt quit the show, each new season has had a new hostess. Courtney Friel and Sabina Gadecki left after doing one season each and now it is the turn of Layla Kayleigh.
Layla is quitting WPT Season &, but she is not quitting anchoring television. She will be facing the camera in The Feed for G4 and is slated to do the second season of America's Best Dance Crew on MTV. Layla will also be seen in the print medium. She is Babe of the Month in the current issue of Playboy.
Meanwhile rumors are getting stronger of other changes at WPT. Mike Sexton’s contract is over and he may not renew it because his wife is expecting their first child. Mike Sexton was the main host at WPT. Linda Johnson will not be back after the WPT Ladies Night at Bellagio. Uncertainties surround Van Patton as well. |
