| Apple Macintosh Battery Recall: Fire Hazards Apple has determined that many of the batteries in their Mac computer products were unsafe. Apple has issued a mass recall on the batteries. The batteries at risk are the lithium ion type batteries. The producer of these batteries was Sony in Japan.
If you purchased a Mac in Oct. 2003 – Aug 2006 then your battery might be subject to the recall. The batteries included the Power Book and iBook G4 Macs and also in the 15 inch PB G4.
The recall will not cost consumers any money as Apple is picking up the bill for their mistake. The old defected product can be swapped for a new battery.
Apple.com has set up a chart with all the serial numbers here. The defected numbers can be found when the battery is taken out of the Mac product.
Users are out of luck for a couple weeks until their replacement arrives. There will be no wandering around the house as the cord outlet must be used temporarily until the battery comes in. Apple will not ship a new battery until they receive the old one.
Apple has labeled this a “battery exchange” instead of a battery recall. It looks like a lot of this is going around lately. Even Dell issued a mass recall on some of their batteries which have been said to cause bodily harm. Apple’s recall is because the batteries could possibly catch fire.
The recall will affect 1.8 million Apple Macintosh users while Dell’s recall on August 14th affected 4.1 million people.
